i was inducted into the phi kappa phi honor society tonight. i feel very special =) apparently not only do they pick the top 10% of the graduate class, they also picked them based on recommendations (something about honor and quality and learning .. blah blah blah..) so i guess wherever the committee got their recommendations, someone must have said something great about me. i didn't know anybody there except for one other grad student, and even then i didn't see him until later on. so i sat next to one dude, i think he is indian (?) maybe, and strike conversation - he is a philosophy major ... oi, nietzche, oits socrates .. hehe .. havent met too many of those philosophers lately..

anyway, i was chatting with tia the other night about our past lives and somehow we talked about our fashion sense (actually it had something to do with bullying, but we ended up talking about fashion instead) .. and i must say, i totally forgot what horrendous styling i have back then. when i was 12, i had none. i picked up whatever clothing items my mom tossed in my direction. so on the first day at school, i thought it would be nice to wear this new pant suit that my mother had given me. now, when i say "pant suit" i dont mean those interview type. its just a top and bottom that somewhat matches. so, this wonderful hand-me-down pant suit was ivory-ish in color (shirt and pants). now, not too bad right .. i mean, ivory or off white or cream, is a pretty decent color. ok, so in the very middle of the shirt, is a very BIG flower bouquet pattern. the colors are vivid pink, blue and red and the flower outlines were lined with shiny, silver thread. and to top THAT off, on the left thigh of the pants, was the exact same bouquet, but smaller in proportions. now ... imagine a 12 year old foreign kid entering your classroom one monday morning. she walks in with this colorful (and ghastly!) pant suit on, a big gray trenchcoat that has wool lining, and carrying a big red lunchbox with some piggy pictures on the front..... wouldnt you WANT to bully the living daylights out of her!!!!

hehe ..

oh, what a great memory.. as horrible as the pantsuit was, i must have not have a care in the world about what i looked like ...
